Top 10 Reasons to Switch to the Valera 1602 Purified from the 1909

By Allen Johnson

1.   In Luke 9:43 the 1909 omits “Jesus”, undermining His deity.

Lu 9:43 (KJV) And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But while they wondered every one at all things which Jesus did, he said unto his disciples,

2.      In Luke 4:41 the 1909 omits “Christ”, also undermining His deity.

Lu 4:41 (KJV) And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking [them] suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ.

3.   Mark 1:2 quotes from Malachi 3:1 not Isaiah. In verse 3 he quotes from Isaiah 40:3. If a new Christian reads verse 2 in the 1909 and then goes to Isaiah to find the quote – guess what?  He will not find it!  I believe in an inerrant Bible.  If you want an inerrant Bible without error or contradiction, Mark 1:2 must read “the prophets”, not “Isaiah the prophet”. By the way, the original Valera 1602 has “the prophets” from the Received Text. Furthermore, Valera had a margin note with the cross references in Malachi and Isaiah.  He must have known his Bible.  By the way, where did the liberal revisers get “Isaiah” from anyway? Yes, the Critical Text.

Mr 1:2 (KJV) As it is written in the prophets….

4.   In Mark 2:17 Jesus told us that He came to call sinners to repentance. The 1909 does not say repentance, diluting the doctrine of repentance.

Mr 2:17 (KJV) … I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Mr 2:17 (1602 Purified) ...No he venido a llamar a los justos, mas los pecadores a arrepentimiento.

Mr 2:17 (1909) …No he venido á llamar á los justos, sino á los pecadores _____________.

5.  I Peter 2:2 adds the words “in salvation”. I believe in instantaneous salvation by grace not in works or process salvation. (We do not grow unto salvation)

1Pe 2:2 (KJV) As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

6.   In Romans 1:16 the 1909 omits the words “of Christ”. I believe God preserved every word including the words “of Christ”.  The removal of the gospel “of Christ” would leave room for “another gospel” which Paul warns about in both II Corinthians 11:4, and Galatians 1:6.  The 1909 takes away the words “of Christ” and thus waters down the true gospel.

Ro 1:16 (KJV) For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

7.   In Ephesians 3:9 the 1909 omits “by Jesus Christ”. I believe Jesus Christ is my Creator and not a created being like the JW’s teach. The 1909 agrees here with the RSV and the JW bible by omitting “by Jesus Christ”.

Eph 3:9 (KJV) …God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:

8.   In 1 Corinthians 1:18 the 1909 says “se salvan” which means “save themselves” but we “are saved” and we can not save ourselves!

1Co 1:18 (KJV) For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

9.   In I Thessalonians 5:9 (and other places) the 1909 uses the phrase “alcanzar salud” which today means “reach health” instead of “obtain salvation”.

1Th 5:9 (KJV) For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

1Th 5:9  (1602 Purified) …sino para obtener salvación por nuestro Señor Jesu Cristo;

1Th 5:9 (1909) …sino para alcanzar salud por nuestro Señor Jesucristo;

10. In Daniel 3:25 Nebuchadnezzar recognized the fourth man in the fiery furnace to be like “the Son of God” (Capital and Singular).  In the 1909 he recognizes the fourth man to be like “a son of the gods” (lower case and plural). The liberals say Nebuchadnezzar, being a pagan king, could not have recognized the Son of God. But all you have to do is study the context. There was a competition going on between the God of the Hebrews and the gods of Babylon and guess who won? I believe in a “Capital G” God.  Jesus is the Son of God not just a son of the gods!

Da 3:25 (KJV) …and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.
